Chemical peels are cosmetic treatments that involve the application of a chemical solution to the skin, which causes controlled exfoliation and peeling of the outer layers. This process stimulates skin renewal, leading to smoother, clearer, and more youthful-looking skin.
Chemical peels can be classified into three main categories based on their depth of penetration and the severity of skin exfoliation. At Soliz Healthcare Solutions we practice two categories of chemical peels:
Superficial Peels: Also known as "lunchtime peels" or "light peels," superficial peels target the outermost layer of the skin (epidermis). They typically use mild acids such as alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), including glycolic acid, lactic acid, or salicylic acid. Superficial peels are ideal for improving skin texture, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, and treating mild acne or pigmentation issues. They require little to no downtime, with minimal redness or peeling that resolves within a few days.
Medium Peels: Medium-depth peels penetrate deeper into the skin, reaching the upper part of the dermis. They often use stronger acids such as trichloroacetic acid (TCA) or a combination of TCA and other acids. Medium peels are effective for addressing moderate skin concerns, including deeper wrinkles, sun damage, age spots, and acne scars. Patients may experience more significant peeling and redness compared to superficial peels, with recovery typically taking about a week.
Chemical peels are performed by licensed skincare professionals, including dermatologists, aestheticians, or plastic surgeons. The treatment involves thorough cleansing of the skin followed by the application of the chemical solution. Patients may experience a tingling or stinging sensation during the application, which subsides once the peel is neutralized or washed off.
After a chemical peel, the skin may appear red, tight, and slightly swollen, with varying degrees of peeling or flaking depending on the depth of the peel. It's essential to follow post-treatment instructions provided by the skincare professional to ensure proper healing and optimal results. Additionally, sun protection and gentle skincare are crucial during the recovery period to protect the newly revealed skin and maintain the results of the peel.
